Southern California Jr. Bach and Baroque Festival

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA JR. BACH FESTIVAL – DETAILS 

Type of Event: Competition. Adjudicators select winners to compete at Saddleback College on May 17th for the Bach Regional Festival.  Adjudicators select winners from the regional festival and regional winners who performed works from the 2020 Complete Works list have the opportunity to compete at the Complete Works Auditions in October 2020 in Long Beach.

Instruments: Piano, Organ

Registration: Log in on the Southern California Jr. Bach Festival website.
If you have never entered students in this festival, go to “New Teacher: complete instructions for teachers.” If you are a returning teacher but forgot your username, contact Holly Franz, franzpianostudio@gmail.com

Parent Consent Form: If the participating student does not have a Parent Consent Form on file with NSDMTAC, you must download and submit it before February 21 (submission instructions printed on form).

Fee: $35 per student plus a $10 one-time teacher fee that you will pay the first time you login to scjbf.org.  Student registration fees are paid by mailing a check payable to “Northern San Diego MTAC” to Holly Franz, 17380 Utopia Rd., San Diego, CA 92128 (must be postmarked by Feb.21).

BAROQUE FESTIVAL – DETAILS

Type of Event: Competition. Adjudicators choose 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

Instruments: Piano, Organ, Strings, Woodwinds

To Register: Go to the NSDMTAC branch website, click on “Login”, then “Events.” Select “Baroque Festival.”

Parent Consent Form: If the participating student does not have a Parent Consent Form on file with NSDMTAC, you must download and submit it before February 21 (submission instructions printed on form).

Fee: $35 per student plus PayPal fees. Payment must be made online at the time of registration.

Rules and Guidelines:
1. Students perform one original work, in the original key, by a Baroque composer or from the Anna Magdalena Bach Notebook, Anh 113-132. (Students performing other works by Johann Sebastian Bach will register in the Southern California Jr. Bach Festival at scjbf.org)
2. Repeats are optional.
3. Transcriptions are allowed only if is an original transcription by a Baroque composer, of a Baroque work. Transcriptions by J.S. Bach should be entered in the Southern California Jr. Bach Festival.
4. Music for piano, strings and woodwinds must be memorized.
5. Students must bring original music to the festival for adjudicators to view. No photocopies allowed.
6. Judges decisions are final.
7. Teachers registering students will be asked to help the day of the festival.
