Congratulations to the winners of the 2025 Senior Scholarship auditions! Thank you to our judges Lee Galloway and Peter Ko. Below are the list of scholarship recipients and a YouTube video of one of their pieces they performed. We wish the students all the best as they continue their music studies in college.

1st Place – Bo-En Huang ($1300) – violin student of Stanley Wang
Wieniawski Scherzo-Tarantelle
Bo-En Huang is a senior at Westview High School and will attend UCSD in the fall. He is very passionate about music and began his musical studies when he was five years old on both violin and viola. He currently studies violin with Stanley Wang and  was a student of Ulli Reiner’s in middle school and for some of high school. As a violinist, Bo-En is a violinist of the San Diego Youth Symphony and has served as Concertmaster with SDYS. He is the concertmaster of the Westview High School Orchestra and has performed with the Poway Symphonette. He was also a featured soloist on the RB Library Emerging Artists recital.  In addition to solo performances, Bo-En performs with the groups Hang and Hope Ensemble to spread music through volunteering work.

2nd Place – Joel Carrasco ($900) – violin student of Alyze Dreiling
Dvorak Violin Concerto,1st mvt.
Joel  is a senior at the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA), specializing in Instrumental Music. He began playing the violin at the age of six and has been a dedicated student of Alyze Dreiling for nearly seven years, and has additionally been studying with Harold Reeves in the past months. Joel has also studied piano for 6 years with Joanne Stohs. He has participated in the Certificate of Merit program and completed Level 10 for violin and Level 8 for piano, earning both Branch and State honors on several occasions. In 2024 he received Best Performance of a Contemporary Work for the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus Emerging Artists competition. Joel has been a member of the San Diego Civic Youth Orchestra (SDCYO) for ten seasons and is serving as Concertmaster in the Symphony Orchestra. Looking ahead, Joel plans to study pre-med and music in college.

3rd Place – Ava Park ($600) – violin student of Alyze Dreiling
Bruch Violin Concerto, 1st mvt.
Ava is a senior at Classical Academy and first started playing the violin at the age of four. Over the years, Ava has worked with many private instructors and has performed at many recitals and concerts. Under the teaching of Ms. Alyze Dreiling, she participated in the Certificate of Merit program and played in the Civic Youth Orchestra Symphony—performing at venues like the Escondido Performing Arts Center and Carnegie Hall. She also plays violin in her church orchestra and will continue to do so for the next several years as she attends college.

Details: Students of Active Northern San Diego Branch members can apply for the annual Senior Scholarship. Please read the 2025 Senior Scholarship Rules thoroughly. Students fill out the 2025 Application Form and can pay through Zelle or with a check sent to the Senior Scholarship chair, Alyze Dreiling.  Application must be postmarked or emailed to Alyze Dreiling by Saturday, May 10, 2025. The MTAC Parent Consent Form 2025 must be on file and emailed to nsdmtac@gmail.com by May 11, 2025. All rules and guidelines must be thoroughly followed.
